Starn-Bressler Residence

This renovation of a former clubhouse dramatically sited over a rushing brook in Larchmont is one of two houses Imrey Culbert designed for New York-based artists and twins Doug and Mike Starn. Both homes pursue a Japanese-inspired aesthetic. The Starn brothers’ description of a bamboo installation as “always a work in progress” that is “always complete” reveals fascination with change. Tim Culbert used this approach to design a two-storey cut-away over the dining area, extensive new exterior roof overhangs and balconies, all new interior finishes, high-end Kobenhaven kitchen, and Japanese wood detailing.
