COMPETITION FINALIST
Tim Culbert
An invited design competition for a 60,000 sq foot museum within the grounds of an 18th C "hotel particulier" in the historic Marais quarter of Paris. The project included a design of a new building with five levels for temporary exhibits, and the renovation of the existing structure and below-grade areas. The entire surface of the new wing is clad in louvered panels; the material is sand-cast aluminum with a textured "daguerreotype" finish. The entrance ramp frames a rear-projected "camera obscura" image of the street above.
