Japan Society - Early Buddhist Art

2003

New York, New York

This exhibit, a collaboration between the Japan Society and the Korea Society, reflects an important easing of historical tensions between the two countries by creating comparative settings for ancient Buddhist sculptures that have not been previously attempted. Imrey Culbert was responsible for the object groupings, in addition to the installation design—a task not usually given over to the designer. A new fiber optic lighting system was designed by Shozo Toyohisa and Imrey Culbert, and implemented for this show.
