The new home of the American Art Museum, is in the Patent Office Building in Washington D.C., and features an enclosed glass courtyard by Sir Norman Foster. Designing the permanent galleries for Modern and Contemporary Art, Imrey Culbert was challenged to dovetail restoration of the historic Lincoln Galleries with a flexible infrastructure for the display of painting, sculpture and large-scale multimedia works. The firm was responsible for wall systems, visitor furniture, gallery lighting, finishes, and art installation layouts.
